PART TIME MAINTENANCE HELPER II - FORESTRY PARKS DIVISION

Division: Parks
Work hours: 29hrs/week (Shifts can be negotiated/discussed in the interview) 6:30am to 5:00pm
Rate of pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE MAINTENANCE HELPER II - FORESTRY
- MUST HAVE A VALID UTAH DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Must be able to read and write
- One year of supervisory experience; will be supervising park service crews and general upkeep of park property and street trees
- One year of truck and trailer driving experience
- Must be able to operate light duty, motorized equipment (trucks)
- Must have at least one (1) year experience in the operation of small equipment, i.e., weed eaters, lawn mowers, sidewalk edgers, chain saws, etc.
- Must be able to safely operate truck and trailer.
- Must be able to shovel and rake; must be able to pick up picnic tables, trash receptacles, tree limbs, etc.
- Must be capable of changing irrigation heads and able to place or set irrigation systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Duties to include, but not limited to, care and maintenance of the City's urban forest, trimming of trees throughout city, tree removal and planting
- Installation and maintenance of Christmas lighting
- Set up and break down of various special events
- Cleaning of park restrooms and picnic areas, picking up of paper, glass and miscellaneous litter from park areas mowing of grass, cutting of weeds, and basic maintenance of park areas including painting of structures.
- May prepare and monitor facilities for reservations or special events, includes interacting with the public/dealing with requests/complaints
- Will lead workers and assume supervisory responsibility over other workers.
- Must have some supervisor experience.
- Must be able to follow schedule seeing that crew gets from site to site, and essential functions are completed timely.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Include but are not limited to prolonged standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
- Must be able to see and hear.
- Must be able to work at heights for prolonged periods.
- Will be required to work in inclement weather conditions.
