Experience and Training Guidelines:  A minimum of one year of general clerical experience work in an office environment.  Previous cashiering experience preferred.  High School diploma or equivalent required.  Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.  Work is performed in an office environment; sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time. 

 

Knowledge of:  Knowledge of basic clerical accounting principles and procedures; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; basic principles and procedures of record keeping; basic arithmetic, and basic customer service principals.  Ability to accurately tabulate, record and balance assigned transactions; operate a computer, calculator and other office equipment; maintain a variety of records and files; type at a speed necessary for successful job performance; perform a variety of clerical activities; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to follow directions; prioritize tasks; work well under pressure and impending deadlines; work independently with a minimum of supervision. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of records.

 

Ability to:  Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include the following:  sitting for extended periods of time; operating assigned equipment.  Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations; listening; communicating with others; reading and writing; operating assigned equipment.  Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

 

Essential Functions:  Under the direction of the Court Administrator and Chief Court Clerk, accepts payments, via various methods, posts, processes and verifies such payments, credits and other financial transactions, completes all accounting functions ranging from balancing daily work to processing unusual and complex financial transactions.  Scheduling court appearances as required.

Promotes and follows the City's mission statement, values and expectations.
Performs a variety of clerical accounting duties including accepting payments over the counter and through mail; processing payments and preparing bank deposits.
Performs functions of a cashier when called upon; accepting posting, processing and verifying payments, credits and other financial transactions.
Prepares financial and statistical reports as necessary.
Maintains comprehensive index files, forms, reports, and/or records.
Assists customers over the counter and on phones; responds to questions related to judicial services and functions (cases, bail, warrants, payments and appointments).
Contact with public regarding citations, criminal and small claim actions.
Works on a variety of special projects as assigned; performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Assists clerks in performing their tasks including in-court duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.  Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.

 

Driver License Report (MVR): Driver license report (MVR) will be obtained by the Human Resources Division if applicable.

 

Veteran's Preference Points:  Must submit DD-214 with application and before the closing date in order to be awarded points.

 

Criminal History and/or Financial History Background Check:   Successful applicant must pass background check.

 

Education Requirement: Successful applicant must submit above education requirement before appointment if requested.

 

Salary:  $10.50 per hour - approximately 25 to 29 hours per week.  Position is not eligible for benefits.
