REQUIRED PREREQUISITES

Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED; Valid Driver's License; Utah Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) or greater certification.

 

CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IS DEPENDENT UPON MAINTAINING "MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD-STANDING" WITH PLAIN CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT and OGDEN CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND THE CONTINUATION OF THE AMBULANCE SERVICE AGREEMENT BETWEEN OGDEN CITY CORPORATION AND PLAIN CITY CORPORATION.

 

EXPERIENCE and TRAINING GUIDELINES

Some EMS experience is desirable and minimum certification as a Utah EMT-B.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF

Principles, practices, and procedures of emergency medical services, CPR and other medical assistance techniques; operation of ambulances.

 

ABILITY TO

Read, understand, act, and meet expectations in accordance with departmental policies, rules and instructions in the field of emergency services; demonstrate mechanical aptitude as required in the operation of ambulance equipment; demonstrate physical aptitude; meet the emergency medical technician requirements prescribed by the State of Utah; learn and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the layout of Plain City's streets and accesses; retain presence of mind in emergency situations; think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies; understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately; analyze emergency situations and adopt effective courses of action; operate and maintain voice radio equipment; possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid driver's license; drive ambulance vehicle in an approved safe manner; perform heavy lifting and  physical maneuvering; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include running, walking, crouching or crawling during emergency operations; moving equipment and injured/deceased persons; climbing stairs/ladders; performing life saving and rescue procedures; walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

 

Effectively deal with personal danger which may include exposure to dangerous persons, dangerous animals, hazards of emergency driving; hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic, natural and man-made disasters. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations; communicating with others, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment and vehicles.  Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under dangerous circumstances; evaluating various options and alternatives and choose an appropriate and reasonable course of action; demonstrating intellectual capabilities during training and testing processes.

                                                                                                                                             

Work a schedule in a Part Time basis by responding to incidents as they occur.

 

When assigned as an EMT:  Respond to emergency medical incident alarms; operate all types of rescue and emergency medical equipment; analyze patient needs and administer basic life support; assist paramedics at medical emergencies; apply techniques for the control of airway, breathing, circulation, spinal immobilization, shock, patient packaging, and ambulance transport; respond to a variety of general emergency rescue calls including auto accidents, chemical emergencies, trapped persons, ill persons, etc.; clean apparatus and equipment at fire stations; prepare reports; perform general custodial duties as required; attend training sessions designated for the Paid-Call Part-Time Emergency Medical Technician Pool; Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

HIRING PROCESS INCLUDES 

  • Rating that includes scores from Oral Interview and EMS Skills Assessment Center
  • Physical examination by city physician
  • Mandatory drug testing
  • Reference check
  • Background check

 

RATING

50% of the overall rating will come from the Oral Interview and 50% of the overall rating will come from the EMS Skills Assessment Center.

 

CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK

Must be able to pass a background check successfully.

 

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

Applicants MUST submit a copy of their DD-214 to the Human Resource office during the interview process.  This is for initial appointments only.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT 

Successful applicant must submit a copy of their high school diploma or GED before appointment.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE REPORT

Driver license report (MVR) will be obtained by the Human Resources division if applicable.

 

SALARY/HOURLY RATE 

$15.00 per hour.  This position is not eligible for benefits.
